SOLD OUT / Solidarity Sun by Rosalie Schweiker
Solidarity Sun is our first artist edition for the summer season 2020 by artist Rosalie Schweiker.
“This solidarity sun is a cast of my right boob and I made it when I once again couldn't sleep. I realised my boobs are as big as my face and this seems very funny to me. It's called a solidarity sun, because together with Amy Pennington and Sophie Chapman and Sophie Mallett and Sahra Hersi and Kathrin Bohm and Sahra Jury and Magda Fabianczyk and Keep It Complex we started solidarity syndicates in response to the Arts Council’s emergency funding. We were angry that they had cancelled all existing applications and that their criteria and the shitness of grantium would mean that the artists who need the emergency money most wouldn't meet the criteria to apply or didn't have the time and headspace to do so. The idea of the sol syn was to play the arts council like the unfair lottery that it is and form groups of eligible and ineligible people, to share all the money and support each other writing the applications together. Sol means sun so the graphics we made to spread the idea used suns.” - Rosalie
